The population was 3,887 in 2012, making the town small enough to know your neighbor’s name but big enough to still make new friends. Shopping is plentiful with over 44 stores operating in town. Nearby towns include Frisco, Dillon,Keystone, and Breckenridge. Boulder is the nearest large city with a population of about 94,000 and is about 50 miles away should you want to really “get away” for an even larger shopping trip or excursion.

For the winter Silverthorne offers skiing in nearby Ptarmigan and Eagles Nest Wilderness areas along with less expensive ski and snowboard rentals available from one of the many ski shops right in town. For those who want to stay closer to home, a sledding hill is available at Rainbow Park. Other winter activities include Nordic skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and even just walking around the beautiful Blue River Trail. A concession stand operates in the winter to help keep winter revelers warm with snacks and a warming house.
Don’t think that those who enjoy summer will be left out! Summer recreation programs, the local pool, and the beauty of the parks are all items not to be missed in Silverthorne. Or you could try your hand at local fly fishing, hiking, and even country western dancing! Silverthorne also boasts a Pavilion to enlighten the whole family with performances such as comedy, dances, youth events and more.
